This and That

I’m feeling rather sorry for myself tonight, and for a pretty pathetic reason, unfortunately. We found ourselves a gorgeous set of used kitchen cabinets on Craigslist last weekend, just the colour and style we were looking for, and for only $500. We drove out to take a look at them on Monday night, made plans forRead more

We need new windows!

We got some window-insulating plastic off of Freecycle a couple of weeks ago, but we ran out of double sided tape before we could do the small side window in our bedroom (all of our windows are single paned and very breezy). Since we keep the bedroom door closed all day, leaving the room completelyRead more

My work here is done.

I’ve been posting so much about preserving lately that this is starting to look more like a food blog than anything else. Well, I’m happy to report that I think I’m more or less finished in the preserving department, so I might actually talk about something else for awhile. As we leave this topic (forRead more

Here Comes the Sun

Today we woke up to a crisp, foggy morning. This was the view from our living room window: The sun slowly started to make an appearance… …and then suddenly the neighborhood was bathed in light. Things I Love – My Clothesline

I don’t think there are many things that can beat the smell of laundry fresh off the line. My husband just discovered that ourRead more

Fall has officially arrived!

Is there any surer sign that it’s fall than the return of these two things? It was rainy, cool, and very autumny out there today. I’m still busy preserving summer’s bounty, but summer is definitely over. I have a sudden urge to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

I just had to share this beautiful sight, as it will surely never look this good again. My handy-dandy husband took the time this morning to build me two new shelves in the pantry (which is actually a glorified closet). The new ones are the unfinished shallow shelves in the back. The original two wereRead more

C. (hubby) spent the day up on the roof today, stripping off three layers of old shingles. Our house would have been so cute with it’s original cedar shingles, it killed me to watch him tear them off. We stowed them away for use as kindling or whatever. So good natured, he’s still smiling afterRead more

Sleepover Fun and the Roof

My daughter (Bee) had her best friend over for a sleepover last night. It’s so neat to see them growing up together (they’ve been joined at the hip since they were a year old), but it’s hard to believe it’s been 9 years already! Her mom is one of my closest friends, and we convenientlyRead more
