I received this from someone today and had to share it as the flip side to my post from the other day.Chilled Vancouver commuters faced their second day of winter hell today, as an additional ¼ centimetre of the peculiar white stuff fell, bringing the lower mainland to its knees and causing millions of dollarsRead more
I snapped this photo from the car while we were out today. This is one of the city’s most popular beaches. In the summer, it’s usually jam packed with sunbathers and people playing beach volleyball.I think I like it better this way!
The recent snowfall has been wreaking havoc on local plants. Trees everywhere are breaking from the weight, including a beautiful old willow tree just up the block, and I noticed today that my rhododendron has several broken branches. Some things are holding up though, and look especially pretty set against the snow. This blueberry bushRead more
We got some window-insulating plastic off of Freecycle a couple of weeks ago, but we ran out of double sided tape before we could do the small side window in our bedroom (all of our windows are single paned and very breezy). Since we keep the bedroom door closed all day, leaving the room completelyRead more
The snowfall that we’d been promised arrived with a bang on Saturday night. We tend to get a few sprinklings of snow every winter, but the temperatures are rarely cold enough for the snow to collect, and it usually melts within a few hours. We woke up this morning to find that our yard had been covered with a dusting of frost while we slept. It’s not often that it gets frosty around here, and if we do it’s usually only for a few days in January, so it was completely unexpected. Today, everything in the garden is crispy,Read more
Today we woke up to a crisp, foggy morning. This was the view from our living room window: The sun slowly started to make an appearance… …and then suddenly the neighborhood was bathed in light. The dew made everything shimmer. I don’t think I’ve shown the front yard a lot so far (if at all).Read more
Aside from a few showers this past weekend, our fall weather has been unbelievable. As if the colours aren’t gorgeous enough in their own right, someone at a local park has turned them into a work of art. The leaves have been sorted by colour, strung onto thread and wrapped around the trees.
I just love how the water beads up on these Nasturtium leaves.
