One Local Summer #9 – Quiche

This week’s local meal was a simple veggie quiche made with a hodgepodge of garden veggies and local cheese.
I sauteed some zucchini, red peppers, and a bit of broccoli with a couple of heads of garlic, arranged them over a bed of grated cheese in the pastry shell, poured it over with the egg and milk mixture, and then sprinkled it all with a bit of fresh basil. Yum.Quiche is such a yummy, comforting meal, and it’s a lot easier to make than most people think. We’re leaving for a week of holiday in the morning, so I’ll be a no show for OLS next week. I will still be noshing on local delights however, most likely in the form of relaxed, free-for-all meals like the one above, comprised of local breads and cheeses, cucumbers from the garden and some fresh market vegetables (I’m crossing my fingers that the wild blackberries are ready!).

I hope you all have a great week, and I’ll see you again in September!

  • Look delicious!!!!

I made a frittata the other night, inspired by your 1st few local meals…my husband was less than thrilled LOL kept looking for the MEAT. “Where’s the meat?” he would ask. He is one of those meat and potato kind of men.

I can imagine his face when I try this…as I LOVE quiche! I suppose I could grill a skinless chicken breast on the side just for him πŸ™‚

    Have a great trip!

  • That looks great, and here we were going to come over for supper since we are in the area on vacation. Hope you have a great vacation whereever you get to.

  • Your meals make me so sad: They are amazing, beautiful creations…and my kids wouldn’t eat one bite of any of them!! I’m so jealous that you can make dishes like this and not have to follow it up with a box of Annie’s Mac and Cheese. sniff, sniff! Oh why did fate curse me with the world’s pickiest eaters when I’ve stumbled upon your blog of fabulous local fare!

  • Shawna – Just tell him it’s pie, that’d work with my husband (who I married because he ordered a tofu dish on one of our first dates!).

Dawn – Sorry we missed you! I hope you had a great trip anyway. πŸ˜€

Steffi – Thank you, we had a fabulous time!

Rhonda Jean – Thanks. It’s a pretty basic pastry, but it works.

Carla – My door’s always open!

Midlife Traveller – Trust me, there are some things they won’t eat (my daughter won’t touch oatmeal, which I love), and we do go through our fair share of Annie’s. They’re pretty great about trying most things, though.

Blogging Molly – Mmm, that sounds delicious!

I would love to hear from you!
