Magical Mushrooms
A few photos from a recent walk through the park near our house.
My husband thinks these two look like they’re sharing an intimate moment.
If the other two were a couple, this is definitely a mother and child.
I need to get my hands on a good mushroom book so I can go hunting for edibles (pretty sure none of these qualify). Edible or not, they’re still gorgeous, and I’m always excited to spot some huddled together on the damp forest floor.
That first one is way cool. I have a book but would still be scared to eat anything I'd find.

Daughter is very into mushrooms and I've learned so much from going hunting with her. I second the recommendation for "All That the Rain Promises"; excellent guidebook.
That first one looks like a sickener mushroom, Russula emetica, (Russula stalks break like chalk) that induces vomiting. But it may also be a Russula silvicola which is often confused with the emetica, but is poisonous.
The spotty one is Fly Agaric, an amanita mushroom. Their stalks are fibrous when broken. Fly Agaric is also poisonous. Seems the pretty ones are dangerous, lol!
I envy your mushroom find! It must not be as cold as here in Ohio to find blades of grass and mushrooms growing… Those remind me of fairies and gnomes. Such a beautiful and magical sight.
I would love to hunt mushrooms! How fun to forage in the forest for those meaty morsels to come home and make a filling meal from your "work" of a hike… π
Roger on that Fly Agaric, it's one of the Amanitas, and should be enjoyed at a distance. There are a couple of that family that are delicious, but this isn't one of them.
Impressive photography. I should be going on a foraging course over the Easter period which should be ineresting. π
